    Description

    Here we have an antique English fruitwood, folding Diptych Dial, Sundial, Compass, measuring 2" x 2 7/8" with a string gnomon,  with brass hinge, locks and suspension with clock markings [4AM to12 noon to 8 PM with a deviation chart {F=faster, S=slower} and chart correction divided into months.
    The inscription on the inside of the lid of the cover reads: "SUN DIAL AND COMPASS. Slip the notch in the Brass Arm over the Screw in the Lid and put the Compass on a level place to such a position that the North Point of the Needle corresponds with the mark inside the Compass Bar, the shadow of the line will show the time."
    "The Sun Dial shows Solar or apparent time but a Clock should be set to equal or Mean time in the above Equation Table, the difference is stated in minutes. F means that the clock should be faster than the dial. S slower."
    The sun dial case has two brass locks, a brass hinge and a brass catch to hold the dial open.
    The compass has a blued needle and is covered by an intact glass shield and brass ring, and is in a fine, original, undamaged working condition.
    This diptych sundial is in the found condition and could use ~~~a good home. 020
