    Description

Classical (years 80'), relatively high repetition frequency, pulsed xenon flashlamp to pump thin (3 mm - 5 mm dia.), relatively short Nd:YAG or Er:YAG laser rods, type INP 3/60A from Russian Federation. New, never used, no original package. Plasma discharge size: 3 mm dia. x 60 mm length, ideally should match the laser rod size. Appropriate for rods with 50 mm - 70 mm in length. Outer diameter of lamp 5.6 mm. Total lamp length (with electrodes) 150 mm. Even though the electrodes look similar, they are polarized, and the anode is marked with the (+) sign and the Russian letters indicating the lamp type (the right side of the lamp in picture #1 and picture #3). On the cathode side of the lamp, on the quartz envelope there are the letters OTK, meaning "quality control" in Russian (left side of the lamp in picture #1 and picture #2). The following nominal parameters are estimated by interpolation from the original data sheet of the two lamps INP 3/50A and INP 3/75A, for a lifetime of minimum 10
    5
pulses: discharge energy 16 J; nominal working voltage 640 V - 1000 V; pulse duration (at 35% of peak) (90- 120) microseconds; max. repetition frequency 50 Hz; max. average electrical power 1.2 kW; peak trigger voltage 20 kV - 24 kV (measured on 100 kiloohm load), or greater than 8 kV (measured on 10 kiloohm load); min. trigger pulse duration (at 10 % of peak) 1 microsecond. Recommended trigger system -external, i.e., thin (0.3 mm - 0.5 mm) Ni wire wrapped on the outside flashtube or water cooling tube. Breakdown (self-igniting) voltage min. 1.8 kV. Recommended coolant: distilled water, min. flow rate 7 liters per minute. Recommended coolant temperature 25 +/- 10 degrees Celsius. Needs a cooling jacket of 13 mm - 14 mm inner diameter. Critically damped RLC discharge circuit desirable. An example of reasonable good discharge circuit for this flashlamp: C = 50 uF (uF = microfarad); L = 22 uH (uH = microhenry), nominal working voltage to charge the capacitor V
    0
= 780 V, assuring cca. 100 us (us= microsecond) pulse duration at a nominal energy of 15.2 J. At 50 Hz repetition frequency the average power is 760 W and the lifetime of the lamp is min. 2000 hours. Flashlamp intended for laser professionals or for laser hobbyists. Also as laser history collectible item.
