JOSIAH WILLARD GIBBS Liberty Ship first day cover with a postmark from Kansas City, MO dated January 27, 2019.
Color portrait printed on cachet #9333 for the ship by Alvin Eckert USCS #9964.
This 441' World War II Liberty Ship was built in Maine and launched on November 21, 1943 by New England Shipbuilding Corp.
The proud vessel transported supplies to overseas US and Allied Forces during WW II. The ship was sold to be recycled into scrap metal in 1967.
Josiah Willard Gibbs (1839-1903 was born in New Haven, CT. He was Yale graduate and studied in Europe.
He was a leader in the thermodynamics field. See the web pages for details regarding this important scientist.
Cover is franked with 37 cent Gibbs stamp and a 55 cent flag stamp (FDC).
The cover was prepared on a  gummed, archive quality envelope.
