RARE Antique Vintage circa 1870's brass G.M. PHELPS - WESTERN UNION TELEGRAPH CO. Telegraph Register and Cast Iron paper Reel. This piece was found in an attic and has not been touched in probably 100 years! The wood base measures 16 1/4 inches by 5 inches. The brass telegraph register measures 8 1/4 inches by 4 inches and 7 1/2 inches tall. The cast iron paper reel measures 12 inches tall and 10 inches in diameter. The cast iron paper reel retains much of its original green paint and red & gold pinstriping. I could not find any marking on the reel, it was mounted on the back of the wood board with 2 screws originally. The reel will need to be reattached to the board. There is one small stress/age crack on the back of one the reel spirals as pictured. The telegraph register is marked G.M. PHELPS - W.U. TEL. CO. NEW YORK NO. 376. The mechanism works, the on/off lever works as well. Comes with the brass key pictured and was found with it. It is heavy and will need to be shipped in 2 packages for safety.
