Description

Here we have for sale is an 18th century brass French sundial in a case made by BUTTERFIELD - Paris PREMIER CADRAN
finely engraved scale and signature, with collapsible hand in the shape of a bird, the insert SILVERED compass with intact glass lid. On the back a list of European cities with the corresponding settings. In the original case. Dimensions 6cm. x 5cm. This French octagonal brass pocket/compass  is in very fine condition. The upper surface engraved with hour scales . In alternating roman and Arabic chapters. Spring loaded bird gnomon with latitude scale 40 - 60 degrees, supplemented with scrolls. Insert compass with blued needle and brass cap. The underside is engraved with the latitudes of European cities.  The case in perfect condition with wire closure on the lid.
